Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed. NO EARRINGS OR OTHER JEWELRY MAY BE WORN!!! A Groin Cup is required for male competitors, and a female groin guard is strongly encouraged for female competitors, Head Gear must be white or match the red/blue color of the Body Armor being worn during a match.
We will be using the USAT, WT format for sparring. Each competitor will be sparring for three rounds, each round is a match, the best two out of three rounds win the match.
All competitors will have 3 rounds of 90 seconds each with 60 seconds between rounds.
All competitors will have 4 Gam jeoms per round and will be disqualified on the 5th gam jeom.
If the score is tied at the conclusion, the first tie breaker is the person with the most points win, second tie breaker, the person with the most Gam jeoms loses, third tie breaker, the person with most spinning kicks wins, if it goes to a 4th tie breaker, judge’s decision.
Head kicks will be allowed for green belts and above, light contact, excessive force to head will result in disqualification for that round, however the competitor will be allowed to continue moving forward unless the judges determine intent to injure. 12-year-old and younger competitors will be looked at on a case-by-case basis, however, if any coach does not want their competitor to have head kicks, neither will be allowed to kick to the head.
A 12-point spread in any round will result in the end of the round with the low score losing that round.
Body kicks will be awarded two points and spinning body kicks will be awarded 3 points
All head kicks including those with a spin or rotational motion will be awarded 3 points.
If a player does a spinning kick and scores, but falls to the ground, they will keep their points and no gam jeom will be enforced
Pushing for separation is legal and does not have to be followed by a kick, however a player may not push their opponent to the ground or push while the opponent is kicking.
A player is allowed three kicks in the air, without putting their foot down, on the fourth it is a Gam jeom, even if they score on the fourth kick
The back is legal to kick, if the kick is not a direct hit to the spine.
Coaches will be allowed to challenge head kicks, spinning kicks, and push out of bounds or to the ground, with no limit on challenges, however if the coach loses the challenge, his player will receive a gam jeom.
